Another planting scheme success story for Lisa Stevens of Planning Direct!
Back in December 2022, Planning Direct was instructed by Stowmarket Town Council to revive the planting beds outside The Regal, a large 1930s theatre in Stowmarket Town Centre.
The Regal sits on a prominent corner plot, where its generous roadside verges provide a welcome, green contribution to the character of busy Ipswich Street. Around 2019, the grassy verges were transformed into new, biodiverse planting beds, replete with shrubs and flowers. Unfortunately, the original 2019 planting scheme was not performing well. A number of the original plants had died and many more were struggling to survive. As a result, it was all looking a little sparse, unkempt and uncared for. The Town Council reached out to Lisa at Planning Direct for help.
Our client’s brief was to design an attractive and healthy new planting scheme that would better stand the test of time. We were also asked to rescue as many of the original plants as possible for re-use in the new planting scheme. As ever, Lisa’s dedication and careful attention to detail has brought our client’s brief to life (on budget!). The result: a vibrant and healthy planting scheme that makes use of all the original surviving plants.
Lisa designed the landscaping plan and also arranged procurement of all the new plants. Planting was then carried out by members of the local community in a big public event held in April 2023.
Planting scheme is a success
Two months later, Lisa returned to the site to check on progress. She is very pleased to report that the planting scheme is a success and all plants – old and new – are thriving. Lisa looks forward to visiting in another year’s time to take a look at the results – watch this space!
