The Planning Direct Team

Since 2013 the Planning Direct team has grown to reflect their significantly expanding client base

The Planning Direct head office is based in Suffolk in an Enterprise Centre on Ipswich’ bustling waterfront. Most of their clients are based in the Eastern region but with a growing demand for work in London and further afield the team is fast becoming recognised nationwide.

Andrew Cann

Andrew is the founder of Planning Direct. He started the company in 2013.

Andrew has a corporate background. He has been responsible for securing planning permission for very large projects (up to £600m). Andrew has a wealth of experience in Planning, Shipping, Rail Construction, Operations, Logistics, Procurement, and I.T. A trained Project Manager and former business unit head, Andrew has over 25 years experience in senior management roles. He has given expert evidence in a number of forums including the House of Lords.

Andrew served as a Senior Councillor for 10 years (until 2017) and as such can offer a unique insight into planning decisions from both sides of the divide. In his spare time Andrew is an avid Formula One fan and food fanatic.

Here’s what Andrew’s clients have to say

“Andrew worked tirelessly on documenting our objection statement and writing our respective three minute presentations for the Development Control Committee. Our sincere thanks go to Andrew Cann for his diligence, guidance, attention to detail and highly professional approach”

“Andrew handled my case from start to finish. I was kept informed and had up to the minute progress. Andrew became very involved and I almost felt like I had a partner. The result speaks for itself, I could not recommend highly enough”

“Andrew recently demonstrated that in complex, disputed, multi-stakeholder situations he can marshal a team, co-ordinate argument, and drive a winning conclusion. A great person to work with”

Jamie Cann

Jamie joined Planning Direct in 2016 and is now Planning Operations Manager for the business. Jamie has spent the majority of his career in Senior Management within housing development departments for major regional Housing Associations. Jamie has much experience in generating new business, programme management, overseeing planning applications for development sites and preparing financial scheme appraisals. His strengths lie in his management and administrative skills, attention to detail and his ability to meet tight deadlines.

Jamie is Andrew’s brother and lives across the border in Norfolk with his wife and family. He has a degree in Business and Finance. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and is also passionate about football, snooker and pool.

A rather happy client of Jamie’s had this to say recently

“Thank you for seeing us through the planning process and securing us a positive outcome. The service you provided was fantastic! We really appreciate it”.

Steve Miller

Planning Direct appointed Steve Miller as a Principal Planning Consultant in May of 2017. Steve joined the firm from Ipswich Borough Council, where he was head of Town Planning. He has 40 years of experience in planning.

Steve works predominantly in the Planning Appeals Team. Over the last few months this team has had much success in demonstrating that Suffolk Coastal District Council has not allocated sufficient housing land to secure a 5-year housing supply (despite the recent publication of a new Strategic Housing Market Assessment).

Steve has unparalleled experience of Planning and Local Government, including experience of Master Planning. His appointment has enabled Planning Direct to take on significantly larger projects.

In his spare time Steve is a member of his local yacht club and loves to sail.

Nikki O’Hagan

Nikki joined Planning Direct in November 2017 as a Planning Technician. Nikki submits Planning Applications and works predominantly on Planning Appeals case work. Nikki’s work has a strong research focus, she is very thorough and enjoys finding fresh angles from which to construct her arguments. Nikki has a BA in French from The University of Southampton. She is interested in politics, globalisation, social justice issues.

Here’s what Nikki clients have to say about her work

“That’s fantastic news, thank you so much.  It’s been a long time coming and I sometimes thought we would never get there. Thank you for all your help”.

“We are so very pleased of the outcome of our appeal and we would like to thank you so much for all your help and an outstanding job. The appeal was dealt with brilliantly and worded very effectively. We will start the works to finish the driveway in a few weeks as we originally planned”.

“Thanks for your expertise in correcting the Council’s wrongful decision”.

Jim Loxley

Jim joined the team at Planning Direct in October 2018 as a Town Planner. The most Junior member of the Team, he has recently graduated with a Masters in Urban & Regional Planning from Birmingham University. Initially Jim worked predominantly on Change of Use Applications. He has since branched out into Appeals work and obtaining permission for new dwellings. He now works across all departments within the company.

In his spare time Jim loves to travel (predominantly to Eastern European countries with his mates). He also enjoys running and a weekly game of 5 a-side football with his friends.

Jenna Boreham
